How the features on MealSummit use your information.

Your account

Google sign-in provides an account identifier, your name, and email address. MealSummit stores these to recognize your account and associate your submissions and ratings with it. We use your initials for your account picture and do not store or display your Google profile photo. A session cookie keeps you signed in. Your email address is not displayed on public recipe pages.

What you share

Recipe submissions include the text, photo, and credit you provide. Reviewers can access your submission. Published community recipes display the contributing cook’s name and link to their public profile. Keep personal information you do not want published out of recipe text, photographs, and your profile.

AI-assisted recipe details

During review, we may send your recipe title, description, ingredients, steps, servings and any submitted timing or recipe notes to OpenAI’s GPT models, through Cloudflare, to suggest nutrition estimates, cooking times, tags, cuisines and descriptive text. This step does not send your account name, email address or uploaded photo. Personal information you include in the recipe text would be included, so please leave it out. Editors review the suggestions before publication.

Information stored in your browser

When signed out, recipes you save are stored on this device. When signed in, new saves and collections are stored with your account and are available on other devices. Existing device saves stay on this device unless you choose Keep on all devices or save a collection change to your account. Cooking progress and your best game streak are stored in this browser. Submission text drafts are stored for the current tab and are removed after a successful submission. Photos and permission confirmation are not stored in text drafts. Clearing site data removes browser-stored information.

Recipe submission payments

When paid submissions are enabled, Stripe handles checkout and card details. We send Stripe your account email and an account reference, and store order identifiers, payment status, amounts and submission credit usage. MealSummit does not store your card number. These records let us provide credits, prevent duplicate payments and handle refunds.

Recipe feedback

Corrections are associated with your account and visible to editors. Cooking notes and editorial replies may be published after review. Do not include private information in cooking notes.

Optional usage counts

If you opt in below, we count use of search, filters, saving and cooking mode. These daily totals do not contain search text, account identifiers or recipe identifiers and are removed when a new usage count arrives after they are 90 days old. Hosting request logs are separate from these totals.

Page view counts

We count page views on public pages to learn which recipes are read and where visitors come from. We do not use cookies or store anything in your browser for this. Each count records the page, the site or link tag that brought you, your country, and whether you use a phone, tablet or computer. To count how many different people visit each day, we combine your IP address and browser details with a random value that is replaced and deleted every day, and keep only the resulting code. Your IP address itself is never stored, and the code cannot be linked to you or to your visits on other days. Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are not counted. Cloudflare stores these counts for us.

Recently active visitors

While a public page is visible, your browser sends a small check-in when it opens and about once a minute. This lets administrators see an estimated number of visitors with a visible page in the last five minutes, including people reading without clicking. Hidden pages stop checking in. We store only the daily code described above and its latest check-in time, without linking it to your account or recording page paths, button clicks or mouse movements for this count. Check-ins do not set cookies or store anything in your browser. Expired records are removed on subsequent check-ins or by scheduled cleanup, normally within ten minutes of the last check-in. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control preferences are respected.

Services used by the site

Cloudflare hosts the site and its recipe data and images, and processes requests to deliver and operate the service. Google provides sign-in. Fonts and recipe videos are served by MealSummit through Cloudflare. Following social links takes you to those services, which have their own privacy practices.

MealSummit’s own social media accounts

MealSummit connects its own accounts on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook to its private admin dashboard, with read-only access granted by MealSummit through each service’s official sign-in. The dashboard reads statistics about those accounts and the content MealSummit posts: views, impressions, reach, saves, clicks, likes, comments, shares and follower counts, and each post’s caption, link and date. We use this only to see which recipes people find useful. It is stored with the site’s other data on Cloudflare, is visible only to MealSummit’s administrators, and is never sold or shared. It contains totals, not information about individual followers or viewers. Access tokens are stored encrypted and can be revoked from each service’s settings at any time.
